Governor Haley Barbour announced today that Unity Homes will build a modular home manufacturing facility in Columbia.
"I am pleased to welcome Unity Homes to Marion County," Barbour said. "Modular housing is a major component of the state's strategy to develop affordable housing, particularly along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Unity Homes has developed an innovative approach to supplying affordable, energy-efficient housing for our citizens while providing long-term economic vitality to this region."
Jim Vallette, Unity Home factory development team leader, said a number of features led the company to choose Columbia for the new site. "We looked all over southern Mississippi. Columbia was centrally located to the delta, had housing conditions affected by the storm, a welcoming group of leaders, available workforce with good access to job training programs and a spirit of community that really shines through."
